SCTC Time slips

SCTC's car number was 623. Tires were 28x10.5 MT ET drags. Boost was set at ~10.5 psi. Temperature was about 80F. Fuel was 93 pump.  Rear gears 3.73, converter is an 11" 2000 RPM stall. Race weight was 3660 lb. w/driver

SCTC's car number was 619. Tires were 28x10.5 MT ET drags. Boost was set at ~12 psi. Temperature was about 75F. Fuel was 93 pump.  Rear gears 3.73, converter is an 11" 2000 RPM stall. Roll bar installed and race weight was 3520 lb. w/driver.

First pass, didn't have enough fuel in the tank, it sloshed and the pump lost fuel so the car did some pretty bad stuttering. After this pass we took a ride out to the nearest gas station and topped off the tank. This fixed the launch problem as can be seen on the time slip from the second pass. The second pass had the best ET of the day but left us wondering where our MPH went.

After a little contemplating in the pits we decided that the car was probably a little too rich at the top end. The car ran it's highest MPH while it was sucking some air with the fuel on the first pass, and it slowed MPH wise on the second pass. I also noticed that the car seemed to be completely out of the power by 5000 where on the first pass it pulled good right to 6000. Well, we decided to pull about 3% fuel out of the curve above 5000 RPM and ran the 3rd and 4th passes. I guess we were right because the car pulled harder through the traps and some of the MPH came back. Next time out we will try to lean it a little more in hopes to get it into the 10's before the end of the season.

We made 4 passes in the SCTC this Friday night, I made 2, Eric and Al each made 1, but I am only posting 2 of them to conserve space. We took the TT Capri with us as well but unfortunately, transmission problems occurred (it's stuck in second gear) on the drive to the track which prevented us from making any passes with it. The slip on the left is my first pass of the night and the one on the right was the last pass of the night with Eric at the wheel. They are slower than the previous week, and I expected that due to now having the full interior reinstalled, but not to this degree. We didn't get the car weighed before we took it to the track but I intend to do that sometime this week, but our real problem was trying to get it to hook up. I'm not sure if it was because of the high number of street tired car at the track, or the cooler track surface after dark, or maybe I added too much timing at the lower RPM causing the excessive wheel spin. Regardless, we'll get it figured out and I'm pretty sure we'll have a good time doing it!!

Ooops, little problem here on the 4th pass of the night, it was also evident by the white smoke billowing out of the tailpipes ;). It ran OK out of the hole, but I started to hear some detonation when I shifted into third. I lifted, then lightly stepped on it again, that's all it took. I haven't been able to find the time slip from the first pass of the night, but I'll post it when I do.
